Julia, Monique, Avery and I started the morning at Gregory’s Coffee in Washington. As we were eating everyone happened to find us there and grabbed something as well as we were waiting to go to AARP around the corner.

As we got into AARP we were greeted by Michael Wichita. We went up to the offices and sat in a conference room to soon find out this may be a possibility for me. He went into detail…….

We then walked throughout the National Police Officers Memorial which looked more so like a park. I really enjoyed the sculptures they had throughout the sidewalks. Following the subway ride we arrived at National Geographic. As soon as I get there I head to the bathroom and as I am walking out I happen to see a wall of National Geographic magazines which reminded me of the Rolling Stones Wall in New York City. It was pretty ironic, We were unable to tour the actual museum although I was able to listen and meet a lot of interesting people. We met with Kurt Muchler, Veda Shastri, Cosima Amelang, Mark Thiessen, and Becky Hale. We were showed how the publication goes from storyboarding a story, to laying it out on print, to how they navigate choosing what goes online to their social media. It was fascinating hearing about how they are exploring video/audio and how it compares to still deliverables.

After that, we caught another subway to Bloomberg. It was unbelievable walking into there. The first thing we all do is line up to get our badge and our picture taken as we have been doing at nearly every place yet. As we are staying in line to the side there is an entire snack bar and drink station like I have never seen before. Then all of a sudden I see Professor Snyder taking a drink and a snack and next thing we know he is walking away eating it and we are all questioning how this is all free or if its not…come to find out we could take whatever we wanted after we got our badge while we waited for Andrew Harren (photo editor) to great us. Fancy or what? About an hour passed and Andrew greeted us and gave us a tour of the offices. There were a few people working but for most people it was work at home day. After the tour he took us into what looked like a presentation room. He showed us what type of work he does and what he looks for in a freelancer. They offer photo, video and drone positions. All Bloomberg work is freelance and does not pay as much as the other publications we have met with so far. The purpose of having only freelance for this company is so they can hire whatever they need, whenever they need it. We were told multimedia is where the groove is. There are no internship opportunities. If we are interested in getting hired for freelance we should reach out to Andy.

Finally after our third stop we were finally about to get some real food…Julia, Monique, Avery and I went to the Washington Hard Rock for our second year traditional trip. When we went on the NYC trip we also went to Hard Rock. We are now just keeping it going. I had a great burger, seasoned fries and a tropical drink.

After dinner and our bodies were refueled we walked to the Lincoln Memorial which was a lot larger than I remembered. Then we walked along the water down toward the Washington Memorial afterwards, walked to the white house for one last look. Lastly, we took ourselves back on the subway to the house then to bed for another long day tomorrow.
